A WEEKEND GETAWAY IN GROTTAMMARE

Take a trip with this essential Grottammare travel guide. Unlock spectacular views, delicious cuisine and a rich culture (plus a whole lot of glamour too) in this 'Vacanza Italiana' with friends.

INSIDER TRIP

Along the Adriatic coast in the Marche region it could be one of the countless seaside cities that look a little alike, to be honest.

But Grottammare has something more, something special. Behind the long and sandy beach, on top of a mountain you see an ancient medieval town called Grottammare Alta.

Visit the central piazzetta with wonderful Belvedere’s views of the coast, quaint shops filled with artisanal works and historic cafes and many outdoor events during the summer.

FASHION TIPS

During the day, wear stylish but comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking, as many of the attractions require some form of physical exertion in terms of getting between them. At night it is more common to see people wearing smart casual attire. Generally speaking, Grottammare has a relaxed fashion sense, so you'll look chic in a cotton jumpsuit or patterned caftan to visit more upscale beach restaurants or lidos.

Fashionable comfort is a state of mind. Unless of course, you're wearing a caftan dress. Whether you're running errands, heading to the beach, or grabbing drinks and dinner with your crew, this one from Brembati's collection is perfect for the warmer season with a flowing silhouette, midi cut and flutters sleeves—complete with that lovely green tropical print.

FOOD TIPS

The resort town has a remodelled lungomare lined with excellent seafood restaurants and chalets where, as with all beach towns, one can rent a lounge chair and umbrella for the day enjoying the sound of the sea with breaks for lunch or dinner. The cooking is very traditional: One must try the tasty olive ascolane of the region and a wonderful 'spaghetti alle vongole' primo, or hand sliced prosciutto and artisan cheeses for a fitting appetizer which are paired with the best wines of the southern Marche.
